FINAL SATURDAY SHOW EDITION

This has been a difficult decision for me, but since the first of the year, certain events have transpired that compel me to CLOSE Electronica Radio effective Monday. I can no longer give this blog the attention it and it's readers deserve and after nearly three years of running it, it's time to say goodbye.

Meanwhile, I don't wish to leave you stranded in the technological universe, so here are some of my favorite sites that I get info from:

HACKADAY - this website offers great how to's on building cool electronica, or hacking the tech you have to do other cool things. It's worth a bookmark.

ENGADGET - sets the standard for tech blog reporting. And his weekly podcast can't be missed.

THE GIZ (GIZMODO) - With a cool name like that, how can you miss?

PVRBLOG - Keep up on all you need to know about Digital Video Recording. If you're into TIVO or the PSP, this is the ticket.

DAILY ROTATION - the one stop shop for the latest TECH headlines from all over the net.

SLASHDOT - The best geek site around. It's always been considered cool to have your website "slashdotted," but I bet they've never been E-R'd! There are others, to be sure. But these are my favorites. It where I've gotten much of the news I've shared over the years.

Thanks to all who have visited this site and thanks to those who helped me make it possible.

And with that, E-R signs off.

SAVE JOAN

Joan of Arcadia. It may be the best TV Show you're not watching. Joan has a relationship with God. Taking on different personas in her life, God encourages Joan to take action, get involved, help others, and grow. It isn't ever easy, but Joan learns more about herself in the process. And that makes for good drama, and great comedy. And the secondary plotlines that wrap around her family as equally as compelling.

And it doesn't hit you over the head with any particular dogma or theology. It's just a girl and her relationship with God. And that's the beauty of Joan. You don't have to believe in God to get into this show. For God on Joan of Arcadia, isn't your typical Creator, He's more of a fellow student, mentor, and even friend who pushes at just the right time, whether you want it or not. And it asks the tough questions and finds answers in surprising places.

It's on tonight at CBS. Take a few minutes and check it out. I guarantee you, you'll get sucked in. And before you know it, you'll have finished watching another great show NUMB3RS, as well.

One good for the heart, one great for the head. And BOTH terrific shows.

ps - And if you fall in love with Joan, you can catch up by getting Season 1 on DVD.

PIE TO REPLACE COOKIES ...

(hat tip tech web)

These unscupulous badguyshave found a way to bypass antispyware programs with PIE, or persistent identification element, a technology that's uploaded to a browser and restores deleted cookies. In addition, PIE, which can't be easily removed, can also act as a cookie backup, since it contains the same information.

PIE uses a feature in FLASH to accomplish this. Macromedia has already posted instructions on how to turn off the feature.

FOX BLOCKER SEEKS TO REPRESS INFORMATION RATHER THAN COMPETE WITH IT ...

(hat tip the giz)

One has to laugh. CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC. All losing market share. Fox has reported steady gains in the ratings. One would think that this would provide a valuable lesson that news needs to take a more balanced approach. Not for the gang at Fox Blocker. They would rather supress ideas than compete with them. And they claim they don't believe in censorship on their website. Well, if you don't believe in censorship THEN WHY BLOCK IT OUT?!

SURFING THE NET WITH YOUR PSP

HYPOCRITICAL OR JUST PLAIN IRONIC

(hat tip boingboing)

While complaining to the MPAA that they're losing millions from pirated movies fileshared through P2P services like Grokester, 20th Century Fox has been caught ADVERTISING on the same services!

Obviously, they're going to the Orrin Hatch school of media embarrassment.

THE MPAA WANTS TO BE THE IRS

(hat tip techdirt)

The dictionary definition of power hungry, the MPAA wants authority similar to the IRS to combat video piracy.

It isn't clear if the movie industry's lawsuits have deterred piracy, but Mr. Glickman said the lawsuits were needed. He compared the association to the Internal Revenue Service: The tax-collection agency continues to audit people, even though it is only able to identify a small percentage of cheaters.
"We've got to enforce what rules there are," Mr. Glickman said
